"Disability is only a state of mind." - Ronnie Dickson

Home town: Winter Haven, FL

I was born with trevor's disease, a congenital disorder in the growth plates in my left knee and left ankle. I decided to have my leg amputated at age 17 above the knee. Finding climbing afterwards was really liberating, and helped me find my sense of self again. I have been climbing for 10 years, and in 2014 placed second at the IFSC World Paraclimbing Championships in Gijon, Spain. The next year, I became the first above the knee amputee to climb V10. Climbing has been such a positive influence in my life, that I have always wanted to share that experience with other people with disabilities. Getting people to break down the boundaries that exist in their mind is the most satisfying part!

What do you train for? Motivation come from?

I train so that I can be strong to climb outside and really have a good time with all the different climbing experiences the USA has to offer. My motivation comes from individual lines, something that just strikes you when you see it. That is where I get most stoked, and then it is a matter of turning that impossibility into a reality, and writing your own story.

An exercise you have a love/hate relationship with?

Frenchies, I can do one max weighted pull up at 90lbs, but doing 5 reps of these is the death of me
